TROPIC Leaders meeting via teleconference September 6 2007
Present: Martha, David
Mentor activity:
  • David and Karen are launching staff mentoring sessions (“coffee afternoons”) starting next week
  • David to contact Ian re observations
  • Martha has done a co-observation with Sean
October workshop:
  • Leaders to meet 10am Wednesday 10th to plan training – Deb in your conversations with Caloundra Resort can you check if we can book in early or if there is a space that could be made available to us for planning on that day?
  • David suggested inviting all attendees to meet for dinner on the Wednesday evening – a very good idea as we have a packed program on the Thursday and many participants won’t have met each other yet – this will give everyone a chance to settle in and get some of the ‘chatty stuff’ out of the way
  • Peter is to send a program for the event soon. It will include Laurie Kelly & Co on Thursday including a dinner speaker. Mark Davidson will present ‘tips and trends for teachers’ based on the microskills and items on the observation sheets, on Friday morning. I suggest we then break people into groups and get them to discuss the following points:
    • How many observations/what other activities eg microskills sessions or mentoring have you conducted?
    • How are you going to integrate your learning from the mini-conference into your teaching and/or into your mentoring?
    • What are ALL the ways we can improve the networking of the group?
  • Everyone then reports back to the larger group and after lunch we go home. For Tropical North staff and Mark Davidson I am intending to get people to book flights arriving Brisbane 3:30pm 10th – hire car to Caloundra depart Brisbane 5:15pm 12thNovember training:
  • Leaders to plan and prepare on 10th October – Martha will have photos of Neva’s flipcharts and will bring paper and pens
  • Need to recruit in each institute (Leaders) and BRIT (Martha and Peter?)
Other stuff:
  • David suggested regular updates to all staff in each institute about TROPIC activities etc as a responsibility of each Leader
  • Martha to recruit someone to act as Leader within TNQT
